Burnout Paradise

The demo released on Xbox Live Marketplace for did an amazing job of showing off the great aspects of the full game and building excitement for it’s release. Burnout has always been a solid franchise and each game is always extremely entertaining. Not to break that streak, Burnout Paradise takes all the great elements of its ancestors and adds in a lot of next-gen spice and online play.

It seems like many companies put all their great titles into the swarm of the forth quarter of 2007 and left a drought in the first months of 2008. When gamers saw a new Burnout was hitting the stores in late January, it was like seeing a bottle of fresh water in the desert. EA then released a demo online for the next-gen systems that allowed for people to get a taste of the action. The demo being very large with no time limit, and allowing for co-op with up to 7 other people, it raised the anticipation for the game’s release on January 22.

With the release of the actual game, there was a pretty high bar set from the demo. The full game delivered with ease. The single player is very large and extremely fun. As you work hard to upgrade your drivers license, there are a variety of things you can hunt down around the city and cars you can chase down to unlock them for yourself. There are 75 cars in the game for your unlocking and racing pleasure. Use them to annihilate the other racers, ramp into billboards and cut your own course through the city.

There is a lot of emphasis placed on multiplayer, definitely more so than previous Burnouts. You can play cooperatively with or against up to seven other players. For each amount of people in your party, there are hundreds of events to do together, and a variety of races for bragging rights. It will be a long time before anyone completes all the events for all the amounts of players which is comforting to know that the game has that much depth. The single player is massive as well and will have people racing for hours and hours to complete it.
I highly recommend Burnout to anyone who is a racing fan, either arcade or simulation. The feel of the game, amazing graphics, replay-ability and online depth is enough to make anyone feel like they definitely got their moneys-worth. If you are not a fan of the genre then I would still recommend you download the demo and try it out. It is high intensity and may even hook non-racing fans.
Final Review:
Gameplay: 9 out of 10
Graphics: 9 out of 10
