National Treature 2

In the enormous drought between Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and the new Indy flick, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, National Treasure has found it’s place as the treasure hunting franchise of this generation. With nothing short of an amazing cast, the newest installment, Book of Secrets, delivers a solid action flick that any family is sure to enjoy.

Benjamin Gates (Nicholas Cage) comes back in this sequel and is tasked with defending his family name by proving the Gates family was not integral in the assassination of President Lincoln. Mitch Wilkinson (Ed Harris) comes forward with old documentation that lists a Gates family member as a conspirator to assassinate the president. As Gates tries to save his family’s reputation, mend his love life, and try to get his parents (Jon Voight and Helen Mirren) to cooperate, he learns of an ancient secret that sends him all around the world chasing down a city made of gold.

The same all star cast returns for the sequel and are joined by Ed Harris, Helen Mirren and Bruce Greenwood. One of the biggest complaints viewers have with sequels is a loss or change of cast. The fact that all the original cast returned (even Nicholas Cage who has never done a sequel and reportedly strays from them) really speaks volume to the franchise and helps the success of the film.

If you are looking for a solid family movie to go see that will keep you on the edge of your seat and bode you over until the next Indy flick, National Treasure: Book of Secrets is right up your alley. Disney has done an amazing job with creating solid live action franchises like Pirates of the Caribbean, and National Treasure is no different.
Final Score: 8 out of 10
