Hitman

“The place I was raised they didn’t give us names, they gave us numbers.” Agent 47 hits the big screen in this movie adaptation of the popular videogame series. Hitman delivers as a solid action flick that is a nice tribute to the game. Timothy Olyphant does a great job of playing the cold and ruthless Agent 47. Ukrainian model Olga Kurylenko plays opposite Olyphant as the assassin-taming Nika. With solid performances by some less-than-famous actors and actresses, Hitman does a great job of being what I expected it to be, a solid action film.

The movie starts out with us seeing glimpses into Agent 47’s past, and his conditioning as a child. As we progress through the story, we get to see how cautious he is about everything, and the security measures he puts in place just in case something were to go south. They seem a little much until he is tracked down by Interpol and the Russian FSB.

When he gets set up by his brotherhood of assassins, and pursued by government henchmen trying to cover up a secret, he finds himself partnered up with a beautiful woman. Never flinching and always ruthless, Agent 47 does seem to break down when around her, making her a sort of lion tamer to his inner beast.

Xavier Gens does a great job of directing his first major American action film. It helps that the supporting cast are all solid foreign actors as well, like Robert Knepper (T-Bag in “Prison Break”), Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond in “Lost”), and Dougray Scott (Sean Ambrose in Mission: Impossible II). If you find yourself in the mood for a solid action movie, or are a fan of the videogame, then you may want to check this out at your local theater or rent it when it hits the shelves.

Final Score: 7 out of 10
