Spiderman 3

The third installment in the Spiderman storyline was recently released on DVD. I was one of the only people I know that had not seen the movie when it was in theaters, so I had a fresh point of view when I watched the DVD this past weekend. With great actors and special effects in ever Spiderman, the biggest challenges are the script and plot. Although there were a few hiccups in this one, I would easily say it is the best Spiderman to date.

Unlike most people, I was not a big fan of the first Spiderman. I loved the visuals and idea of it all, but the script was rather corny, and it seemed like they could have better utilized the cast they had. For the second movie, they improved on the script quite a bit, still had great actors and some amazing CG. For the third Spiderman, they had some references to the cast of the previous films, and added some other amazing actors and actresses that did a great job at their roles.

Spiderman1

This movie never lacks in action. At one point, Spiderman has three villains who want him dead. When he isn’t battling with the Hobgoblin, he is struggling with the Sandman. When he gets a break from the Sandman then he gets thrown around by Venom. This is by far the darkest and most intense of all the Spiderman movies. Throughout the movie, Peter has a lot of conflicting problems with his mindset toward himself, Mary Jane, and Gwen Stacy (played by Bryce Dallas Howard).

Spiderman2

The biggest single complaint I have is the decision to make Peter act emo when he is taken over by the venom. I understand he is in a depression, full of himself, and dark and twisted, but did he really need to flip his hair and wear eyeliner? Also, there is a dancing scene in a Jazz club that is a bit much. He isn’t that great of a dancer, and the scene seems a little overdone. Despite those problems, the rest of the movie was extremely enjoyable. As I said earlier, I think it is the best of the three, but you may want to check it out for yourself to make your own decision.

Final Score: 7 out of 10

  1. I actually thought it was pretty weak on storyline. Of the three films, I thought the first was the strongest and most enjoyable. With Spiderman 3, they ended up diluting the story too much by trying to throw too many villains in at the same time. Maybe they didn’t actually have enough story to fill an entire film?

  2. I do see your point on that, and do agree that there were just a bit too many villains running around. I can see one or two, but three is kind of overkill.

I still enjoy it more than the first one. Call me bizarro.

  3. Watching the third and last installment (hopefully, I don’t think we need another one do we?) of the Spiderman movie series was a like a sigh of relief in my opinion. They did a wonderful job in keeping the audience at the edge of their seats with fights after fights with different vilains and not just focusing on one vilain. The plot and story line was fantastic and was a good way to end the movie series. I thought the emo look on Peter Parker was a bit hillarious because he somewhat resembled the lead singer of 10 seconds to Mars and actor, Jared Leto… hey I don’t care though…he’s pretty cute!
And what’s with the actor who played Venom… I mean, he did a good job and I think he’s a good actor, but isn’t Venom supposed to be really buff? O well huh?

  4. I mean…30 seconds to Mars…sorry!
