Shoot ‘Em Up

You know, carrots are good for your eye sight. If you didn’t know, then you wil if you go out and see Shoot ‘Em Up. I found my way to the cheap theater this past weekend and saw that Shoot ‘Em Up was playing. I though this movie just recently came out, could it really be that bad to hop to the cheap theaters that quick? I was a bit bewildered since I was actually looking forward to seeing the movie when I saw the trailer for it. The cast is great, the action scenes are intense, it seems like this would be the perfect shoot ‘em up movie. Pun intended.

This is not your average action movie, or really your average movie in general. It is extremely dark and witty. There is some dark comedy, dark ideas, and some pretty rough action sequences. The main character, Smith, played by Clive Owen, stumbles into a cover-up that has everyone after him and a newborn that he is trying to save. As he says in the movie, “[he's] a British nanny and [he's] dangerous.” Smith is a retired special ops agent, and is known for his amazing shooting ability. After getting involved with saving a newborn, Smith is persued by squad after squad of armed gunmen. With witty maneuvers and skilled shots, he is able to lay to rest anyone that comes after him. Paul Giamatti’s character is a paid assassin with a wicked mind, and clever thinking. Smith and him are pitted against each other on multiple occasions for some extremely hilarious, and equally fierce battles.

All in all, this movie is a good one to rent some time if you are in the mood for a solid action movie with a clever script. Some people may not like it, while others may adore it. I appreciated the script, actors, and clever moments that set it apart from your traditional action film.

Final Score: 6 out of 10
