Crackdown

Known also as the “Halo 3 Beta Including Crackdown,” although that title doesn’t give this game any justice. Although the story is a tad short, it is a solid game with plenty of things to play around with for enjoyment, and achievements that are fun to hunt down. Sure it also provided eager Halo fans with a pass into the Beta test phase, but I played this game well before and well after the beta was over.
The story was almost Grand Theft Auto from the other point of view. You are a agent fighting crime in a futuristic world. There are no hover cars or anything, but technology has advanced allowing you to bound forward a hundred yards, and jump 30 or more feet into the air. It is interesting to play from the point of view as a cop, and trying to stop crime in the city. It seems like the criminal games are overdone since everyone wants to be the bad guy and the next Tony Montana.
Crackdown has a lot of things that make add to its story, like the ability to level up your character’s attributes. By collecting agility markers, hidden markers and killing henchmen and bosses, you get experience that will ultimately add up to you being able to jump higher, run faster, and make more accurate shots. The world that you are trying to protect is about as large as your average GTA game and just as explorable, if not more. Where you are limited in modern games, the super human attributes in Crackdown allow for you to climb buildings, jump between skyscrapers and approach objectives a number of different ways.
This game is a solid free roamer with a lot of sandbox attributes people have grown to love. Since most people unfortunately just bought it for the beta, you should be able to pick up this title for fairly cheap at your local game retailer.
Final Score
Gameplay: 7 out of 10
