Bourne Ultimatum

My initial hopes for this movie were that it should not make me sick to my stomach like the second one did. With the volume prying apart my ear-drums and the shaky car chases making my eyes boil, I was looking forward to the end of Bourne Supremacy. I enjoyed the first movie a lot. I will take a gentle camera pan and wall climbing scene any day over the shaky car chases that were in the second one. I tried to leave my hope relatively low, hoping that the third movie in this trilogy, Bourne Ultimatum, would at least be better than the second.
After watching the movie I can honestly say that rarely do a see a movie sequel that is just as good, perhaps even better than the original. There are a million examples, but I will only name a few. The Jurassic Park trilogy has been one of my favorites. The first movie was amazing, the second was a bad dream, and the third one was better than the second, but still far behind the first. It is the same with the Pirates of the Caribbean series. It is a sort of natural trend the studios follow with trilogies. The first is amazing, and has everyone going to see it. This leads to the making of the second which basically is a rehash of the good parts of the first, and usually sucks. Then they realized how much they messed up, and do a better job with the third, but it can still never be as good as the first. Of course there are exceptions, the original Star Wars and Lord of the Rings to name a couple, but history is repeating itself every time a new trilogy comes out.
Bourne Ultimatum broke this stereotype. Not only was the third one better than the second, it was as good as the first. It has just enough hand to hand combat, car chases, and foot chases to round it out well. There were some amazing scenes where Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) was jumping from one window of a building to another. The camera shots were great and really made that scene amazing. They had a slew of amazing actors in this including but not limited to Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, Joan Allen and Albert Finney. The studio and director really stepped it up with this one and perfectly washed away any bad taste left from Supremacy. I can only hope this will be the new trend for trilogies, or even, heaven forbid, have all three movies be amazing. I give this movie an astounding 9 out of 10. It deserves it!
Final Score: 9 out of 10
